Must-see in Jaisalmer: How many days do I recommend?
Jaisalmer is a small city, but with a lot of charm. ♥. In two days you can visit the main attractions, tour its fort and enjoy its architecture. However, if you want to immerse yourself in its history, hike in the desert and enjoy its tranquility, I recommend you to stay here. at least 3 days. If you have more time, you can explore some of the picturesque villages nearby and spend a night in a camp in the Thar desert.

Jaisalmer Fort
This fortress, built in 1156, is one of the few inhabited forts in the world. Its golden walls change color with the sun and house temples, palaces and local stores.
The Jaisalmer Fort is the only fort in India that is still inhabited (and one of the few in the world), with about 4,000 people living within its walls. This feature makes it especially unique and vibrant, because in addition to temples, palaces and beautiful Havelis, you will find houses, stores, cafes and restaurants functioning as part of the daily life of the fortress
This sets it apart from other historical forts in India, which are generally maintained as museums or tourist sites with no permanent residents.
2. Patwon Ki Haveli

With more than 300 years of history, this haveli is famous for its peacock-shaped roof and overhanging balconies. Built by Prime Minister Salim Singh, its architecture defies the norms of the time and offers a breathtaking view of the city.
5. Jain Temples Jaisalmer
Built between the 12th and 15th centuries inside the Jaisalmer Fort, these seven temples are famous for their intricate carvings and the serenity that permeates their interiors. The carved pillars and ceilings tell mythological scenes and represent an exquisite example of Jain art.
6. Gadisar Lake Jaisalmer
This artificial lake, built in the 14th century as a water reservoir, is surrounded by temples and cenotaphs with delicate details. PA boat ride at sunset is a magical experience.The reflection of the temples in the water and the migratory birds flying overhead. There are also several very cool restaurants and cafes with spectacular views...here I have spent hours working (lucky to be able to work from any corner of the world 💻.
7. Bada Bagh Jaisalmer
This is one of the most special places in the Golden City.The cenotaph complex, in particular, is a complex of royal cenotaphs built in memory of the rulers of Jaisalmer. The structures, with their carved pillars and domes, are set in an arid landscape that contrasts dramatically with the blue sky.
8. Kuldhara, the abandoned village
This village, founded in the thirteenth century and mysteriously abandoned in a single night, is surrounded by legends. It is said that its inhabitants launched a curse before leaving, and today its ruins continue to awaken the curiosity of travelers. As a curious fact I will tell you that there are houses full of bats hanging from the ceiling and that the doorman is a very peculiar man who has been attracting the attention of many travelers for years with his charisma.

About 15 km from Jaisalmer, the Lodhruva or Lodurva Temple is famous for its yellow sandstone architecture and delicate carvings that seem to come alive in the desert sun. This was once the capital of the Bhati kingdom and, although only ruins remain today, the temple is still an important pilgrimage site for Jains. Its intricate Torana gate and the carved details on the pillars are simply breathtaking.

This temple-palace inside Jaisalmer Fort combines the majesty of Rajput architecture with the spirituality of the Hindu temples.. - Winter in Jaisalmer: It runs from November to February, with maximum temperatures between 22-26ºC and minimum temperatures that can drop to 5ºC at night. This is the best time to visit the city, as the days are pleasant and the nights are cool.
- Summer in Jaisalmer: It covers the months from March to June and is the hottest season. Maximum temperatures easily exceed 40ºC, reaching peaks of up to 45ºC. During these months, exploring the city can be exhausting due to the extreme heat.
- Monsoon in Jaisalmer: Although rare, the monsoon arrives between July and September, leaving some sporadic rains. Rainfall is not abundant, but helps to alleviate some of the heat. Humidity remains low.
- Autumn in Jaisalmer: It takes place in October and is a transitional time with milder temperatures. It is a good time to tour the city before the cold winter nights begin.

Shopping in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer is a shopper's paradise, especially if you are fascinated by handicrafts and typical products of Rajasthan. The city offers a wide variety of traditional bazaars where you can find everything from hand-embroidered fabrics and silver jewelry to carpets and camel leather goods.
The bazaars are the soul of the local culture and I recommend you to explore them without haste, as you will find real wonders. In addition, bargaining is part of the experience, so do not hesitate to negotiate prices.
Sadar Market is one of the best known, with narrow alleys lined with stores selling spices, fabrics and handicrafts. If you are looking for something more authentic and less touristic, visit the Bhatia Bazaar, famous for its leather and textile products.

How to get to Jaisalmer
By plane
The nearest airport is Jodhpur airport, about 285 km from Jaisalmer. From there, you can take a train, bus or hire a chauffeur-driven car to reach the Golden City. There are also direct seasonal flights to Jaisalmer airport from Delhi and Jaipur, but they tend to be more limited and are only available in high season. By train
Jaisalmer is well connected by train to cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur and Delhi. The Jaisalmer train station is within walking distance from the center and is a convenient and economical option to get there. I recommend booking in advance, especially in high season. By private car with driver
Traveling by private car is an excellent option if you want to enjoy the desert landscape in comfort. The roads are in good condition and you can make stops at villages and temples along the way. I suggest you opt for a chauffeur-driven car, as driving in India is no easy task.
